Defense Department officials announced Tuesday a war room within the Pentagon to help deal with the growing threat posed by Russia.
The war room will include a “core team” of senior military officials and intelligence analysts who will provide briefings and provide strategic assessments to the president, Vice President Mike Pence and others, according to a statement from the Pentagon.
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Defense Secretary Bob Work will chair the team.
“This war room is a core part of our strategy for addressing this evolving threat, which we have repeatedly called on the Russian Federation to cease its destabilizing activities in Europe and beyond,” Pence said in a statement.
Pence and Defense Department Secretary Jim Defense will meet with members of Congress on Tuesday to discuss the Russian threat.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened to attack NATO and the United States and has accused the U.S. of backing a “hostile” regime in Damascus.
